Winery to Open at Marketplace. Tastings and Wine Purchases Available

Center City Wine Cellar, the Marketplace at Steamtown’s newest tenant, will open tomorrow just in time for Christmas.

A wine bar and retail outlet for the award-winning Crossing Vineyards, located in Newtown, Bucks County, the Center City Wine Cellar, will be one of the anchor locations at the entrance to the new Scranton Public Market on the upper level of the Marketplace.

The Public Market will also be open again for the second weekend of its “Trim the Table” holiday celebration of food and drink on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Wine Cellar’s debut will be what co-owner Thomas Carroll, Sr. calls “a soft opening.”

It will also be open on Saturday and Christmas Eve to give shoppers an opportunity to purchase gifts or stock up for holiday celebrations. Going forward, its regular hours will mirror those of the Marketplace and it will be open for business seven days a week.

Founded in 2000 by Mr. Carroll, his wife Christine, and son Tom, Jr., Crossing Vineyards has had a retail location at the Mohegan Sun Casino for the past 10 years.

“We love the Valley,” Mr. Carroll said. “We have a lot of customers in the area, and we’re excited about what’s happening in downtown Scranton and what John Basalyga is doing with the Marketplace.”

In addition to a complete selection of its award-winning wines, the Center City Wine Cellar will offer gift baskets and gift certificates for last minute shoppers.

In addition to a complete selection of Crossing Vineyards wines, the Wine Cellar will also offer locally-produced craft beers.

“The Center City Wine Cellar continues the momentum that is turning the Marketplace into a destination for people from throughout the region as well as visitors to our area,” said John Basalyga, the developer who bought the property in 2015.

“The Carrolls are real entrepreneurs. They will be very successful in downtown Scranton,” he added.
